LAHORE - Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah has directed medical institutions to take steps for prevention, detection and management of seasonal food borne diseases like Gastroenteritis and Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD).

Vice Chancellors/Principals Medical Universities/Colleges, Medical Superintendents of teaching hospitals, heads of Children Hospitals and Chairman/Dean Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex have been directed to adopt epidemiological measures according to the international protocol.

Patients of AWD and gastroenteritis are reported in summer due to substandard drinks and unhygienic food items. Proper diagnostic and treatment facilities should be ensured for such patients, reads a letter sent to all concerned authorities. They have been directed to update PITB dashboard on daily basis. They have been directed to display banners regarding availability of medicines for gastroenteritis patients and ensure availability of sufficient quantity of intravenous fluids in the stock.
