LAHORE - Pakistan's domestic cricket tournament will soon have foreign flavour as the cricket authorities have allowed Afghan and British players' participation in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The Customs team will field all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and fast bowler Hameed Hasan in the tournament besides Bilal Shafayat who is a British national and plays for Nottinghamshire. Off-spinner Mortaza Hossain who used to play in Pakistan but now has a British passport will also feature in the tournament. "The idea is to encourage teams to try to acquire services of overseas players so that our standard of domestic cricket also improves," a Pakistan Cricket Board official was quoted by a website. The official added that there was no bar on the number of overseas signings. "There are a number of players from other countries who are keen to come and play in our domestic cricket to gain exposure," he said. Former Test pacer Jalaluddin, who is associated with the Customs teams, said Nabi and Hasan would be available from next month as currently they were representing Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup qualifying stages tournaments. "They were happy to play for us as it gives them an opportunity to play first class matches against good competition and improve their skills," Jalaluddin said. He said he had suggested to the Board to invite non-Test playing countries like Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Scotland, Malaysia, Hong Kong to send their players to play domestic cricket in Pakistan.
