Two former cops held

LAHORE: CIA police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a gang allegedly involved in impersonation and kidnapping while recovering ransom amount, illegal weapons, car and police uniform from their possession.
SP CIA, Umar Virk told media men while addressing a press conference at the office of DSP CIA, Iqbal Town.
Those arrested included Ashar Aftab former Sub Inspector of Police resident of Sozo Water Park, Jallo park Lahore, Adnan Butt serving warder jail police, resident of Shad bagh, Atif Butt Fateh Garh and Ghulam Haider resident of Flaming road Lahore.
SP CIA said that on January 7 a trader Adeel resident of Fateh Garh left his house to deliver a payment of Rs 150,000 but as he reached Gatta factory Chowk 4 people boarding a car No-LXJ-5779 intercepted him and snatched above said amount.
 and dropped him near Lal Pul, Mughalpura. A case in this regard was registered in Harbanspura police station.
A raiding team was constituted by SP CIA comprising DSP CIA Iqbal Town who during investigation found statements of Atif Butt one of the friends of complainant suspicious.  When Atif was asked to join investigation he confessed that Ashar Aftab, Adnan, Irfan Masseh, and Ghulam Haider kidnapped Muhammad Adeel. All these accused were involved in such crimes since long.
He revealed that Ashar Aftab who was former Sub Inspector of Punjab police always kept SI uniform in his Honda car. They all were involved in kidnapping.
Accused Ashar kidnapped Muhammad Razaq of Gulshan-e-Ravi and kept him in his illegal custody in Jallo area few months back and received Rs1.5 million ransom from his family. Ashar was dismissed from service on the basis of same case wherein his involvement was established and proved.
The accused also confessed to 9 bids of kidnapping for ransom in district Sheikhupura and Lahore. Cases have been traced against them in the limits of different police stations of Lahore including Shad bagh, Gawalmandi, Harbanspura, Ichra, Nishtar colony and Factory Area. DIG Zulfiqar Hameed also announced appreciation letters and cash prize for police team who arrested the accused.
