Pervaiz Elahi criticises govt for abolishing NSC

LAHORE - Former Chief Minister Punjab and PML-Q senior leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi has criticised the government decisions what he termed taken in hurry to abolish National Security Council and on sending the ISI chief to India on the call of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The government should have taken these decisions after thorough consultation with all stake holders, said Pervaiz Elahi while talking to journalists at FC College on the occasion of inspecting Ch Pervaiz Elahi Building here on Saturday. He said instead of admitting failure of its security agencies, India is levelling allegations on Pakistan without conducting any investigation into the Mumbai attacks. The former Chief Minister asked the coalition partners in the government to fulfil their promises made to the people instead of playing 'free circus.' He blamed the government for spending Baitul Mall and Zakat amount on the sasta tandoor and Support Programmes instead of treatment of the cancer patients. To a question, Ch Pervaiz Elahi said National Security Council was a constitutional body and in any country such institutions are disbanded after thorough consideration. He said Pakistan was victim of a worst kind of terrorism wherein thousands of people had been obliged to leave their homes and become refugees in their own country. Not that but innocent people were also being killed in the missile attacks. He said Pakistan strongly condemns the act of terrorism in India but the Indian government in violation of the international laws, was putting blame of the same on Pakistan even without looking into the incident and holding any investigation into it. To a question on the correspondence between the Governor and the Chief Minster Punjab, he replied, both the PPP and the PML-N had contested the last elections together, they made promises together, and now they are ruling together therefore they have to share together the responsibility for their failures in doing any public welfare service as well as making any new policies during the last one year. He said after abortive attempts to end the health, education, Rescue 1122 and Traffic Warden projects which his government has initiated in the Punjab, now efforts are on to highjack the local government system when the fact is, this system is protected under 17th Constitutional amendment and without approval of the President no change or amendment can be brought to it. To a question, Pervaiz Elahi said the constitutional body of the PML-Q, Central Executive Committee, has reposed full confidence in the leadership of Ch Shujaat Hussain and anyone making statements against it is in fact, trying to get his own purpose served.
