Teen, mother killed for ‘honour’

LAHORE  - A teenage girl and her mother were gunned down by their relatives in the name ‘honour’ at their house in Shahdara Town on Wednesday, police said.
Resident of Qaisar Town, Farooq Butt told the police that his nephews Shahbaz, Ejaz, Saddam and Mushtaq forced their entry into his house and opened straight fire at his wife and daughter.
As a result, Rehana Bibi, 38, and her daughter Amana Bibi, 18, sustained multiple bullet wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced as brought dead.
The gunmen fled after shooting the woman and her daughter. The police have removed the bodies to the morgue for autopsy.  Investigators said that Amana had eloped with her lover, Waqas Akram, almost four months ago. Waqas and Amana had contracted court-marriage. The elders of Amana’s family intervened and managed to bring her back home a few weeks ago.  On the day of incident, the nephews of Farooq stormed into his house and exchanged harsh words with the women. Later, they took out guns and killed Rehana and her daughter for what police said “bringing shame on the family.” The police have registered the double-murder case against the above mentioned killers and are investigating with no arrest made yet.
Police claim 43 bandits nabbed:
Investigation police on Wednesday claimed to have smashed nine gangs of criminals by arresting their 43 members involved in heinous crimes like killings and armed robberies.  Addressing a news conference at the investigation police headquarters on Wednesday, Lahore SSP (Investigation) Abdul Rab Chaudhry told reporters that the arrested bandits confessed to 78 incidents of crimes which they had committed in different parts of the provincial metropolis. The police also recovered cash, prize bonds, gold ornaments, and other valuables worth millions of rupees from their possession. According to the SSP, the alleged criminals were arrested during a special police campaign launched against the bandits involved in organized crimes. The arrested bandits also committed armed robberies in other districts of the province including Okara, Kasur, Khanewal, and Pakpattan. Further investigations are underway.
