Moot stresses improving quality of teacher education

LAHORE - A two-day conference of National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) yesterday concluded that it was the need of hour to improve the quality of education.
The experts read research papers and stressed on the need of improving quality of education in the country. They said that educational and research experts must be consulted on how to improve the education and to determine that what are the hurdles and problems in the way.
Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, University of Education Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf Azam, Virtual University Rector Dr Naveed A Malik, PU Institute of Education and Research Dean and Director Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter chaired and attended difference sessions of the conference, attended by educational experts, evaluators and stakeholders from all over the country.
The concluding session was attended by the incumbent and former chairpersons of NACTE, alongside Dr Nasir as the representative of the HEC.
Dr Munawar Mirza Sultana was invited as the chief guest of the closing ceremony. She commended all efforts of NACTE and the HEC.
Later on, Dr Munawar and Dr Mumtaz awarded the participants shields and certificates. NACTE Secretary Dr Irshad Ahmad Farrukh thanked all participants of the conference in the end.
UASA urges govt to use agri land: Punjab University Academic Staff Association on Thursday took out a rally against construction of Orange Train Project offices on University Town 1 land from Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology to Faisal Auditorium.
PU ASA Vice President Prof Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, Dr Liaqat Ali, Dr Kamran Abid and a large number of teachers were present on the occasion. Addressing the rally, Dr Mahboob Hussain said the malafide intention of bureaucracy was deteriorating the issue as the government could easily purchase agricultural land for the project which was a far better option.
However, the bureaucracy was continuously insisting to use developed land which was totally illogical, he added. He said that the next meeting of PUASA general body will be held in Old Campus and PU teachers would stage protest demonstration on The Mall.
Earlier, Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry presided over the meeting PUASA general body which discussed the option of involving civil society in the movement.
