LAHORE - PIA cut National Bank to size to retain the 28th National Junior Under-20 Hockey Championship title here at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday. After a productive start from the bankers the airmen bounced back to halt all their attacks and rather unleashed their own set of attacks to first level the goals and then took lead of two goals to win the final. Muhammad Taufeeq opened the account fro NBP in the 10th minute but their defence did not hold long to open up for PIA forwards. Thus Kashir Ali through a penalty corner leveled the score in the 34th minute to end the first half there and then. But the real success drama was witnessed in the second half when Zaheer Ahmed brought PIA into lead in the 45th minute. About ten minutes later, National Bank striker took full advantage of the short corner to bring in a leveler through an accurate strike from Muhammad Ateeq. But then onwards it was like the bankers are died down and the PIA players started attacks after attacks that provided them several opportunities out of which two were successfully taken. Kashif Ali converted his second and teams third goal taking his team to lead of 3-2 in the 60th minute. And four minutes later Shahbaz produced the fourth goal which proved to be the last of the match that separated the team at 4-2 win for PIA. Earlier, Army secured third place after a fully charged contest that went all the way to the sudden death penalty shootouts 11-10. Both the team first played a 2-all match. During the relegated time Pakistan Steel was leading the match by 2-1 at half time but Army came back in the game with their second goal to draw the proceedings. And later they took penalty strokes but five each strokes also did not separated them then they were given sudden death strokes which went in to a surprising thrill to end up 11-10 in favour of Army.
