LAHORE - The PPP and PML-N have joined hands to save PPP MNA Jamshed Dasti, who in connivance with his some 150 armed supporters ransacked the District Hospital Muzzarfargarh couple of months back, leaving two senior doctors, eight nurses, and some females students injured, well established sources disclosed to The Nation on Friday. The victims, who suffered severe injuries during an episode of torture by the MNA workers, are being pressurised to compromise otherwise get ready for serious consequences, sources added. As per reports, numbers of 'middlemen have been forcing the victims to withdraw case lodged against 150 accused persons including MNA Dasti. Moreover Muzzafargarh district police are reluctant to arrest Dasti and other accused owing to incomplete investigations. The PML-N led Punjab Government, however, is also silent over the development. According to Punjab Capital Police Office (CPO) sources, special directives were issued to Punjab Police to restrain from arresting Mr Dasti until a compromise was made between him and the doctors. Meanwhile, Secretary Health Fawad Hassan has phoned to Dr Iqbal, President Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) of Muzzafargarh chapter and Dr Maqbool, PMA General Secretary and convened a message by Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior provincial minister Raja Riaz to settle the dispute on minutes after the victims doctors and nurses staged a protest demonstration against Dasti in Muzzafargarh on Thursday. Fawad said both of the ministers are ready to visit Muzzafargarh in order to settle this dispute but we decided to meet the ministers in their offices, they said. Dr Iqbal said that they visited Rana Sana and Raja Riazs chamber at Punjab Assembly on Friday but both of the ministers were not available at their offices, however Ashraf Sohna, labour minister, was directed to tackle the issue. During the meeting, Ashraf Sohna said, Why the people of Muzzafargarh cast him vote if he (Dasti) was so bad. But Dr Akhtar Rasheed, PMA Punjab Secretary General, said they wanted to seek justice instead of compromise with Dasti, on which, Ashraf Sohna replied who can receive justice here? Please give second look to your case, sending a message that no one can get justice in Pakistan. We are committed with our cause to seek justice, Dr Iqbal remarked to this scribe minutes before leaving to Muzzafargarh. Jamshed Khan Dasti, a second time elected PPP parliamentarian hailing from NA-178, Muzzafargarh, is likely to be disqualified again if he is executed under the case but police have been directed to linger on the matter, a political source said. Muzzfargarh police records reveals that almost 40 FIRs were registered against Mr Dasti before he was elected as MNA in 2008 on charges of abuse, robbery, extorting money, hurling threats, murder attempt and kidnapping. The victim succumbed to wounds on the spot. Talking to The Nation, Muzzafargarh District Police Officer (DPO) Manzor Sarwar, denying the allegations of political influence, said MNA could not be arrested before producing any tangible evidences.
