LAHORE - The Election Commission of Pakistan has nominated five retired Sessions Judges for Election Tribunals (ET) in Punjab for one year on contract basis to hear election petitions. The Lahore High Court had recommended 10 judges for working as ET and five of them have been selected after consultations with the LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
According to the notification, these retired judges include Kazim Ali Malik, Saifur Rehman, Rana Zahid Mahmood, Syed Nasir Ali Shah and Javed Rashid Mahboob. The appointment of these judges during the period of contract shall be liable to termination on 30 days notice without assigning any reasons.
Whenever they will assume the charge, their contracts will end on June 30, 2014, however, the same may be extended by the competent authority.
The notification adds the pay, perks and privileges of these judges will be equivalent to serving officer in BPS-22.
The rejected retired judges are Mazhar Hussain Minhas, Muhammad Latif Qureshi, Muhammad Saleem Qureshi, Muhammad Din Basra and Mr Javed.
