Nurses protest continues outside Punjab Assembly

LAHORE: The Young Nurses Association continued protest outside Punjab Assembly on Tuesday, hampering service delivery besides causing postponement of hundreds of scheduled and emergency surgeries at major hospitals.

Nurses sit in at Faisal Chowk caused worst traffic mess on The Mall and adjoining roads throughout the day. Closure of Faisal Chowk and Shareey Fatima Jinnah from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to The Mall caused diversion of traffic on adjoining roads that led to massive traffic jams throughout the day. Like the previous day, not only cars and motorcycles but also ambulances were seen stuck in traffic jam.

Their protest continued till late night as negotiations with the government officials remained inconclusive. Carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands, nurses chanted slogans against the government.

The YNA has announced to continue sit in outside the PA till acceptance of all demands. Their leaders held the health bureaucracy responsible for delay in implementation of service structure and provision of health professional allowance on the pattern of doctors.

YNA President Rozeena Manzoor said that the HPA of merely Rs1,500 was not enough for nurses who perform a hectic job for several hours. She announced to continue sit-in till acceptance of all demands.
