4 dead as driver jumps off bus

LAHORE – At least four people were killed and 18 others wounded, five of them seriously, when a passenger bus turned turtle near Thokar Niaz Baig on Tuesday morning, police and rescue workers said.
The injured told the police that the driver jumped from the bus travelling at high speed after exchanging harsh words with the conductor. The passengers also told the investigators that both the driver and the conductor were quarrelling over some matter since the journey began.
Eyewitnesses said that the bus, which was also overloaded, hit the footpath and then turned turtle. As a result, three people died on the spot while another was pronounced dead at the hospital. Those who died in the road mishap were later identified as Nasaruddin of Charsadda, Eid Muhammad from Balochistan, Inayat Ullah of Lakki Marwat and Dost Muhammad of Karachi.
The bus (KPK/C – 9616) was heading towards Raiwind City from Mardan with dozens of passengers on board including a few foreigners. A Sri Lankan is also among those wounded. Rescue workers rushed to the spot soon after the accident and shifted the wounded to a local hospital, where the condition of five of them was reported to be serious. The police have impounded the bus. A case has also been registered and the police are investigating. 
Meanwhile, a car plunged into the canal due to over speeding near Dharampura underpass on Tuesday. Rescue workers rushed to the spot and managed to pull out the car from the Canal after hectic efforts. The car driver jumped from the car before it fell into the canal water.
