Ethnic killings and misplaced priorities

After suicide bombings and target killings, now, Pakistan is experiencing another type of killing, the pick and choose killing. As at Babusar, few months ago, passengers belonging to a particular sect were identified though their identification cards and were taken off the buses and brutally massacred. This is the second incident of its kind in the same area within a period of six months. These are unparalleled and unprecedented acts of violence in Pakistan. Terrorists are killing citizens across the country with impunity while the rulers are doing nothing beyond condemning the incidents and making routine statements. While these atrocities continue in the state, the rulers are worried about petty issues such as; does the President have immunity under the constitution? Which organ of the state is supreme? Should the Government write a letter to the Swiss authorities? What will be the SC decision on the next hearing? Will the government complete its tenure? These are important issues for the government, and the media.MOHSIN RAZA MALIK, Lahore, September 28.
