Resign they don't

Recently some letters have appeared in these columns where our current rulers have been classified clowns, jesters and jokers. Initially I did not agree to the notion of our respected rulers being called clowns or some such. But some recent statements by some of these rulers have forced me to change my mind; our Minister for Power had threatened to file a defamation case of Rs. 10 million against Faisal Saleh Hayat. But he has not done so, at least not so far. Our Ambassador to the US had also threatened The Nation with a defamation claim of Rs. 100 million. He showed no spine to pursue the case, though. Our Interior Minister said he would resign if the presence of (former) Blackwater in Pakistan is proved. It is established now that they are here but he never resigned. Our Prime Minister said he would resign if the name of his spouse crops up among the NRO beneficiaries. A press report in an English daily from Karachi proved that she borrowed a huge amount from the Agricultural Bank but returned a fraction of it as the rest was written off. Raja Pervez Ashraf has also bragged that if loadshedding does not end by December 31, he would resign. Obviously neither loadshedding would end nor would he resign. -FARHAN ALI KHAN, Lahore, December 1.
