Recently, Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister of IHK and Chief of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference party, said that Azad Kashmir would remain with Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir with India and the entire Indian army would not be able to defend “us against terrorists and militants.” His description of Kashmiri freedom fighters speaks volume of Farooq Abdulla’s loyalty with Jammu and its people. Those who defended Indian army and forces and opposed Kashmiri nation even on human rights for their petty personal gains and lust of power should have some shame. Indeed, Chairman Jammu Kashmir liberation (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik has rightly termed Farooq Abdullah’s statement a case of slave mentality. He also said that issuing such is like stabbing Kashmiris in their back, and it is vain to expect any good from people like these.
However, Indian establishment and the right-wing media should have the wisdom to understand and realize that the will of the people of Kashmir cannot be crushed by brute force. Kashmir is an internationally accepted disputed territory and the resolution of the dispute would be possible only by resolving it in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. No one’s personal viewpoint could change the disputed character of Kashmir or change the political and historical realities of the issue.
