PEMRA chief has directed cable-operators to block some unlicensed channels which have not paid their dues. Out of the blocked channels, few were those aired exclusively in the month of Ramadan as they aired live Traveeh from Makkah and besides running various other religious education programs as well. A prominent one was Peace-TV where we could see Zakir Naik giving lectures on Islam. This is a non-commercial channel, funded merely by charity and Zakat money, and doing quite a job in redeeming the true picture of Islam. I wouldnt be an honorable thing to ban it for not paying its dues. I would request PEMRA chief and officials involved to unblock it. They hold no controversial debates like some other channels do. If we cannot come forward and promote the spread of piety, at least we should not hinder those spreading the message of faith, unity and brotherhood among masses. AHMED, Karachi, October 30.
