Why tax education?

Instead of taxing the wealthy elite of the country the government has decided to tax the education sector by imposing flood tax on private education institutions. While taking to the media the Secretary Education Sindh disclosed that private schools and colleges will be asked to pay one time flood tax ranging from 5000 to 100000 each, according to their capacity. Has the provincial government ever thought that the tax will ultimately be paid/ recovered from the students, as the owners of private educational institutions, as the practice will shift burden, like every other expenditure to the students? Therefore, by imposing flood tax the government has conveniently avoided to displease its elite class and found out an easy route to collect tax by levying tax on private educational institutions. The Chief Minster Sindh is requested to reconsider the decision of taxing the poor parents who will be the ultimate payers of flood tax and impose one time levy on the traders, industrialists and business community with unrestrained capacity of profit earning. The federal government is also requested to improve its tax machinery and evolve transparent and effective system so that the rich and wealthy do not get away with their unlimited wealth without paying their due share to the government treasury.
