Horrific scenario

To feed the present population, Pakistan needs 22 million tons of wheat. With progressive silting up of the dams, the dam capacity will continue to decrease. Except for the sweet water areas, the saline areas will practically be at the mercy of nature. Our wheat production could drop by 5 million tons if replacement dams are not built in the next 5 to 7 years. KHURSHID ANWER, Lahore, November 3.
