M.A. Qureshi, in his letter captioned 'Let PPP set agenda' (The Nation July 25) says, "The judges are living quite comfortably in their official residences...". He has missed the point completely. The lawyers struggle is not for gaining any comfort for the judges, it is for providing the people with their fundamental rights of access to justice and rule of law. Provision of roti, kapra aur makan will not save you from having your daughter abducted, your cattle lifted, your land usurped by influentials that are above the law. Nor will roti, kapra aur makan can be provided as long as the nexus between smugglers, hoarders, profiteers and officialdom exists in the present free play, unchecked by the courts. One does not live by bread alone. One needs peace and security, things that are not possible without justice and fair play. -KHURSHID ANWER, Lahore Cantt., via e-mail, July 26.
