The Metro Bus Project was one of the mesmerizing projects by the former Punjab Government. The project worth Rs.30 billion is no doubt, a wonderful marvel. But, although the project is now operational and the buses are plying, it has been seen that the construction work relating to roads is going on and rather at a snail’s pace. This is causing problems for the normal flow of traffic as well as for the commuters.
At many points along the route from Gajjumatta to Shahdara, the roads are still undergoing maintenance and construction. It appears, the construction of these roads is not a priority for the authorities as they are only taking comfort in the thought that the buses are now running on the track, an excuse to shirk further work. All the roads under construction are also causing road blocks for hours, especially during the rush hour. People who travel on these routes daily are facing trauma every day. That makes the former CM’s dream of converting Lahore into Paris a distant mirage. The authorities responsible to finish the construction of roads on the metro bus route should complete the construction of these roads as quickly as possible.
