More demands and threats

Pakistan is protesting in the strongest of terms against the violation of its sovereignty through the US unilateral action in Abbotabad and the continuing drone attacks and here is their man, Ambassador Cameron Munter, telling us that Abbottabad type action can be repeated. As reported in The Nation, when asked about another US unilateral action in Pakistan like Abbotabad to hunt Zawahiri or Mullah Omar, Cameron said I think it can happen. Unfortunately, some of our individuals and institutions give too much importance even to the trash from the US with the result that they start thinking they own Pakistan, and feel free to say whatever they like. It is bad enough leaders and lawmakers talking rubbish about Pakistan in America but it is just too much when their ambassadors start speaking the same language, and right on our soil. Munter also emphasized that the US and Pakistan should work together but then doing so in the past to the maximum and rendering so many sacrifices did not bring us any dividends but only occasional praise and that, too laced with venom, more demands and threats, which are not even veiled now. The least our government could do is to declare this man, Cameron Munter, persona non grata and ask him to leave the country within 24 hours. There should be a limit to how much nuisance and humiliation one could be prepared to put up with. S.R.H. HASHMI, Karachi, May 10.
