It has been recently reported that several culprits involved in murders of at least 185 police officers in Karachi since 1994, are still at large. The obvious reason being the political pressure on the department, as the culprits have political backing. The recent attack on a police bus also makes evident the vulnerability of the police. The level of political interference should be a point of concern for every citizen and even the higher authorities. This also raises the question that if the police themselves are so insecure, how will they be able to provide security to the common citizens? HASSAN BASHIR, Islamabad, September 12.
