Like a national anthem, national songs are patriotic musical compositions that conjure feelings of love for one’s country. These songs have enriched our history, traditions, stories of struggles of the nation and the beauty of the landscape. It is said that Pakistan is the only country in the League of Nations that has thousands of national songs; no other country has this many patriotic songs to its credit so far. Words fail to describe the over-all quality and beauty of these songs. There is no doubt that our national songs are our greatest assets. The national sentiments, zeal and fervor evidently seen in PTV transmissions when it was the sole channel, can hardly be spotted now. Pakistan television played a key role to promote patriotism, love and devotion through national songs for many years.
