Burmese democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi was released today after 20 yeas in jail or house arrest. Her relentless struggle for democracy reminds us of the parallel with the daughter of the east Benazir Bhutto who sacrificed her life for the cause of the poor and the downtrodden. The two iron ladies refused to surrender their principles in the face of heavy odds. Both of them lost their loved ones in the course of their determined pursuit of freedom of their people. Both could not be deterred by the might of the armies of their respective countries, nor long spans of incarceration could compel them to quit their mission. B A MALIK, Islamabad, November 13.
