In a city unable to stretch

I saw these people standing by the roadside in Rawalpindi carrying a coffin of their dear departed. I asked them why they were not burying the dead. They answered that almost all graveyards of the city were full to capacity and they were unable to find a place. There can be many alternate solutions to this growing problem but a very pragmatic solution would be to make it mandatory for all developers of new housing schemes to reserve a place for burials whenever they develop any land for business purposes. For sure, it would be a waste of land for these developers as they would be unable to have any significant monetary benefit from these reservations for dead but that is the least we owe to the dead, a decent burial with respect and honor. -DR IRFAN ZAFAR, Islamabad, June 15.
