Need for Kalabagh Dam

It has been reported in the national press that IMF has commented that raising the energy prices continuously is no solution, as it would become unaffordable. Depending upon the imported fuel to produce energy would not be feasible due to ever increasing import bill of oil. The only sane solution to produce cheap power is by the hydel route, which is consistently ignored by the myopic politicians who have not built a single mega hydro-electric dam in the past 35 years. It appears our so-called democratic Governments do not agree to build the vital Kalabagh dam due to plain stubborn attitude of some provincial governments, which is like shutting ones eyes when a pigeon sees a cat thinking that it would go away. The energy problem would not go away and it is the main worry of each household. DR. MUHAMMAD YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, November 15.
