Punished twice

Pakistan has suffered twice by a water curse during 2009 and 2011 when flood waters and rain waters created a disastrous situation especially in KP and Sindh and to a lesser extent in Punjab and Balochistan. Now which are the two vociferous provinces that have opposed KBD since decades? These are KP and Sindh which have faced the brunt of water curse. Lengthy prayers do not help when a nation is collectively guilty of rank ingratitude in not wisely using its God given water resource for storage and producing power and irrigation water for crops. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had said that tie the camels knee and then pray that it may not go away. When a nation is guilty of ingratitude the prayers do not produce desired result. We have to set our house in order and decide to build water storages like KBD and others to control floods otherwise repeated lashes of Allah Almighty would keep on falling on our backs. May be the water curse would show us light of day and set our course on the straight path. DR. MUHAMMAD YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, September 15.
