In 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed that the world will be celebrating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People on August 9. This day will remind us of the pivotal contributions made by indigenous people in tackling developmental challenges, from the management of natural resources to the fight against climate change. 

Every country has its own indigenous people, who continue to live in the ways they have been living since centuries. These people haven’t modified their way of life subject to cultural, economic or political changes. 

This year’s theme of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is education for all. We ought to promote education among indigenous people. 

We must strengthen international cooperation for solving problems faced by indigenous peoples in areas such as culture, education, health, human rights, the environment, and socioeconomic development. Let us recognise and celebrate the valuable and distinctive identities of indigenous peoples around the world.
