It is very disturbing that most of the government departments are running in shamelessly depleted conditions. The driving license office at Lahore is one such example. There is no place for the license seekers to sit under some shade. They have to stand in a long queue in oppressive heat and humidity. There is no facility or exception for even senior citizens. A few years back I asked a senior traffic officer to open another window for senior citizens; his answer was that this is not his job. I do not know who is going to determine what the job of such officers should be. The printing quality of the computerised licenses is also very bad. The colours on the cards are so dark that it becomes difficult to read the contents on them. As far as the quality of photographs is concerned, it is usually rather difficult to recognize the license holder from the mugshot on his card. -MAJ (Retd) ANWAR PASHA, Lahore, via e-mail, June 11.
