Switzerland finally soundless

I am no fan of Switzerland but I must say I support their new law on minarets. The intention of the law may seem anti-Islamic at first flush but it is not. It is simply a "stitch in time that saves nine". Had we not been so apathetic with the loudspeakers on our minarets, we would not have been a country of tone-deaf people who are doomed to suffer all things loud, be they rickshaws, Tuk-Tuks or Qingchis etc, etc.Nor would there be any of these vegetables/knick-knacks vendors peddling their wares door to door with loudspeakers on their bicycles. Even the security details of our VVIP would have probably desisted from using the bull horns that they do to such devastating effect on our roads. We would have been a normal country with intact hearing where citizens could think of making a protest when somebody abused the loudspeaker. -AMIR, Lahore, December 17.
