Hoping for peace?

On one hand, the Indians are singing the melodies of Aman ki Asha. On the other hand, they are also heating up things at the Line of Control between the two countries, bombarding our territory under pretext of cross-border infiltration. On January 18, the Indian military resorted to unprovoked firing from across at the Sialkot sector. They want open borders, business exchange and a safe route to Afghanistan through Pakistan but wouldn't stop saber-rattling either. What exactly is their policy? Recently, the Indian Army Chief, General Deepak Kapoor, boasted of having the militarily capability to wage a war against both Pakistan and China, and win it too, within 96 hours to boot. Indian peaceniks, columnists and television anchors talk of starting peace process with Pakistan but do not hesitate a minute when it comes to charge-sheeting Islamabad for its 'involvement' in the Mumbai incident. That despite the fact that many a turns later, it is obvious that the trial of Ajmal Kasab is going nowhere due to lack of evidence. The Indian psy-war experts are busy planting the idea that India is not the real enemy of Pakistan, it is the US, indeed the whole West, that is our real enemy. Meanwhile, Indians let go of no chance to propagate against Pakistan on the international fora and the diplomatic front. They are steadfast in their resolve never to ever resolve Kashmir, Siachin, Sir Creek or the various water issues with Pakistan. Instead, they are covertly fuelling insurgencies inside Pakistan, in Balochistan and NWFP, on the quiet. Their Asha for Aman seems just a ploy to engage Pakistan on the sidelines as they prepare for war. By resorting to firing at the LOC and now at the working boundary, Indians seem to be heading towards a well thought out design that, according to regional experts, foresees diversion of Pakistan Army's attention from western borders and to divide our attention away from the war we are fighting. Is the world looking at it? -FOZIA NIAZI, Rawalpindi, January 20.
