Countless tragedies of war

This is with reference to the discussion about the so-called 'missing' persons about whom some people are daily protesting and the media highlighting it. The courts and government are under pressure as many human rights associations are also supporting them. But what about those kidnapped by Taliban? No body is asking about them. As of now, approximately 150 people from all over Pakistan have been kidnapped by them for ransom, including 40 from various multinational companies. People mostly from Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Quetta are being kidnapped. High ransom is being demanded from their families in lieu of their promised freedom. Taliban are using these tactics to generate funds to equip their war against the Pakistan Army. I personally know of one person named Irfan Naqvi who was kidnapped by the Taliban in November last year from Lahore and is still missing. The last news about him was that Taliban in Orakzai Agency were trying to negotiate a hefty ransom with his family but the family was not able to pay. He has two small kids and old parents but the cruel Taliban are not sending him back even after his being in captivity for almost a full year. These missing people's families are not even supported by any organization in Pakistan nor is their cause being highlighted in media. Their families are passing through the worst of nightmares, as many of them are not even sure of their loved ones being alive. I would request the media to please highlight the barbarity of Taliban and try to get the government and courts to support the families of these missing people too. -AMIN SHEERAZI, Abbotabbad, November 19.
