Every other day one comes across people standing by the roadside, shouting at each other after an accident has taken place. If we look at the west, in case of an accident, the drivers immediately reach out to each other and ask if the other driver is fine and has not suffered any injuries. This is followed by the arrival of police during which time the drivers just stand quietly and respectfully without uttering a word thus enabling the police to decide and fix the responsibility. In our country, though, we have angry people ripping each other apart by the time the police arrive. -DR IRFAN ZAFAR, Islamabad, via e-mail, July 9.
