Karachi was saddened by the murder of MQM’s MPA Manzar Imam along with his gunmen on Jan 17, 2013. There was chaos and anarchy in the city resulting in carnage, looting, arson as usual and there were long queues of commuters and public transport on fuel/CNG pumps filling up the tanks for a familiar misery ahead which often entails in shutting down of the city next day or may be for the next few days - despite the appeal by the MQM’s Chairman for a peaceful mourning for this particular sad incident!
Every life is important whether it is of a parliamentarian or an ordinary citizen and its untimely loss is always disheartening. Recently Mr. Bashir Bilour, who was one of the top leaders of the KPK’s ruling party ANP, lost his life in a tragic bomb blast in Peshawar, but there was no chaos in the city. There wasn’t any looting, rioting or carnage in Peshawar or in the entire KPK province. Rather the people of KPK remained peaceful and kept calm and mourned the loss of their leader silently. Unfortunately I felt ashamed when I saw the usual pattern of arson, loot, carnage, commotion, chaos and complete closure of the city on Jan 17 immediately after Mr. Imam’s death and complete shutdown the next day in Karachi. I hope that Karachi’s biggest political party would take a lesson from the people of KPK.
A CONCERNED CITIZEN,
Karachi, January 19.
