In a startling report published in its March 23 issue, The Nation revealed that without obtaining clearance from Foreign Office and intelligence agencies, Capital Development Authority saw fit to approve a nine-level expansion plan for US embassy in Islamabad. If completed, this high perch would give a clear view of nearly the whole of the Federal government set up in Islamabad including government office buildings, Parliament House, the Presidency and the PM Secretariat, to already the largest CIA contingent in the world, and of course it will not stay at that level. If the embassy, and the accumulation of terrorists, saboteurs and spies under its wings, is allowed to expand unhindered, we can well imagine the threat it would pose to the security, even existence, of Pakistan. I sincerely hope that those in authority will revoke this permission at once, punish the culprits and make sure that such things do not happen again.
