Superpower license

This is with reference to a recently published report that a 266-page highly confidential list of US nuclear sites, having details of Uranium storage facilities and other nuclear activities was mistakenly posted on a website. The US administration had tried to cover up this blunder by saying that disclosure of this information does not jeopardize the national security. The Energy Secretary Mr Chu has said, "That's of great concern and we shell be looking hard and making sure to prevent eco-terrorists and others getting hold of that material". There is the question, though, that if the information was of no use to anyone, why was it removed immediately from the site? One might recall that once a US aircraft carrying nuclear weapons flew unauthorised from one base to the other but as no major mishap took place, they said no problem because, after all, it was a lapse by the sole supper power, America. There is no one to question them and they have the license to blame, invade and destroy any country they like. -SHAHID ZAHUR, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, June 11.
