Non-democratic dictator

According to one of the exponents of post-modernism, Andre Gunder Frank, the under developed countries need to come out of an illusion that in order to get developed, they need not blindly follow formulas for development, dictated by the West, rather they should formulate policy for development within their own context. In an interview on BBC’s HARDTALK on November 25, 2014, ex-President General Pervez Musharraf’s ideas echoed with these beliefs in post-modernism when he shared his views about democracy in Pakistan. He said, “We should be democratic. We believe in democracy but we should mould it according to the Pakistani environment.” Given his stint as President-cum-Chief of Army Staff, for almost a decade, in which he tried his level best to stop democracy, his ideas do not seem to be corroborated by his actions.
