Keeping peace on our borders

Pakistan and Iran are committed to maintaining peace and have agreed on new measures to strengthen border coordination and control. Recent flare ups, along the border were a sign that Pakistan and Iran should come to the table and sort out their differences. At the Pakistan-Iran Bilateral Political Consultations our Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chauhdry and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ibrahim Rahimpour discussed vital security issues and how to de-escalate tensions between Pakistan and Iran. Let’s hope better sense prevails, for we cannot afford to antagonize Iran. We have enough problems on the border with India and Afghanistan. We can’t have another neighbor country wary of us. We may hope that bilateral talks allay any fears of both Pakistan and Iran and the situation on the border can improve.
