The news that NLC has started recruiting retired Railway employees to start their own rail freight service is perhaps the last nail in the coffin of the once profit making and efficient service of Pakistan Railways. NLC is a rogue organization that was created by the Zia regime to destroy Pakistan Railways. It took away the profit making freight business leaving behind the passenger section that does not make enough money anywhere in the world. I suggest that Pakistan Railways and NLC should be merged. Long hauls should be carried out on the rails while short runs can be handled by road. There is no justification of two state owned entities carrying out the same function making it less profitable for the nation kitty.
