LAHORE-For the first time in Punjab Assemblys Parliamentary history, the present Assembly has set a new tradition of taking up privilege motions in the House against its own members, and which are being moved by fellow legislators. The acting Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmad on Thursday referred two privilege motions against two legislators to the privilege committee of the House for adjudication. The first one was moved by Sheikh Alauddin of forward bloc against his former colleague Samina Khawar Hayat for throwing lipstick and face powder on his face during Wednesdays Assembly sitting. He pleaded that she had breached his and Houses privilege by throwing cosmetics and using indecent language against him. The chair referred the motion to the concerned committee for decision without seeking consent of the House. The second privilege motion was admitted against PPP MPA, Azma Zahid Bukhari. It was jointed moved by Ghazala Saad Rafique, Farah Deeba and others. The ladies in their motion accused Azma of calling names and using indecent language against one of their colleagues, Ghazala Rana during Assembly session on March 21st. It was also referred to the privilege committee by the chair. A similar motion moved by Azma Bukhari against Law Minister Rana Sanaullah was also accepted by the Speaker two weeks ago. It may be noted that as per normal practice in the Assembly, members usually submit a privilege motion against the objectionable attitude of government officials, mostly police men. Later, they are made to appear before privilege committee of the House to explain their conduct, and some times the committee also recommends disciplinary action against them. It is, however, for the first time that members have started bringing privilege motions against each other and they are being accepted by the chair.
