Former federal information minister and PPP Central Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan Ahmad chose very inappropriate tone and words in his press conference and “we condemn that.” He termed that the imposition of Article 245 and deployment of army reflected the government’s failure. He declared that the Opposition had democratic right to point out the wrongdoings of the government and the government should show patience to positive criticism.
He was comment on Federal Interior Minister Ch Nisar’s press conference while addressing a press conference here at his Awami Rabita Office Lalamusa.
Kaira pointed out that the Constitution only permitted the imposition of Article-245 in case of war, civil disobedience or threat to national security. The current situation doesn’t warrant the imposition of article or the deployment of army,” he regretted.
He went on saying that the current government was trying to achieve political objectives by hiding behind the institutions and “we would not allow them to use ‘political stick’ to gain political motives.” He said that Dr Tahirul Qadri’s protest was within the purview allowed by democracy. The PPP stalwart while strongly condemning the death of innocent people in Model Town, said that by deploying army, the government was paving the way for incidents like Model Town. He said the government had panicked on the announcement of mass protests by Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri and imposed Article 245 to blanket themselves from public’s fury. The PPP does not second the revolutionary ideology of Dr Tahirul Qadri nor it supports the demand of mid-term elections in the country but it does support Imran Khan’s recount demand in four constituencies,” he pointed out, adding that the PPP had always supported democratic system and would always work to foster democracy in the country.
