MANDI BAHAUDDIN -Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority Chairman Arif Saeed has said Tevta is playing a key role to promote and provide technical education and vocational training in Punjab. He as the chief guest was addressing a function on the occasion of centenary celebrations of the Government College of Technology in Mandi Bahauddin.
He said that promotion of technical education and vocational training was indispensible to produce skilled manpower for Industrial and agricultural sectors where thousands of vacancies were lying vacant. To fill the vacancies, Tevta was imparting technical education to the national youth, he said.
"We are working to regulate and develop standards of technical education and vocational training including internationally recognised curriculum, examination and certification system," he said and added that relationship was being established with various sectors like agriculture, Industry, architecture, services and commerce for training manpower according to their requirements.
"Workforce trained in technical colleges would not only meet domestic needs but would be exported to foreign countries where they would earn foreign exchange and contribute to strengthen national economy. The graduates of the area already working abroad in several countries and they are contributing towards improving our economy by sending huge remittances home," he said.
In his welcome address, Principal Mazhar Abbas Nanqvi highlighted the salient features of training courses at the college. He apprised the audience of the achievements of the college in the field of technology education and vocational training. He said the students after completion of their education and training were serving not only in the country but also in China, Japan, Germany, India, Malaysia and many other countries of Europe.
He said that at present about 3,500 students were studying in the college. On the occasion, position holders were awarded medals. The event was also attended by Dr Sarjeet and his Mrs from India. Other personalities from industry and trade belonging to Pakistan, Belgium, South Africa, Dubai, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia also participated in the celebrations. Before start of the event, the TEVTA chairman inaugurated the college museum and newly built fountain.
