DG CAA concedes ‘security lapse’ in Karachi airport attack

KARACHI-Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday conceded security lapse on part of CAA despite receiving a letter from the Ministry of Interior.
The top CAA official made this confession before a Senate standing committee meeting presided over by Senator Kulsoom Parveen in Cabinet Secretariat. The DG CAA gave briefing about Karachi airport attack to the committee. He informed that his department had received the letter of interior ministry describing security threats to airport, adding that the follow-up of the letter could not be pursued owing to ‘lethargy’.
He, however, told that a new plan had been devised for ensuring full security at the airport. Heavily armed militants had stormed Karachi airport on June 18, claiming lives of at least 29 people. All the terrorists were killed by security forces after hours of battle.
