Democratic process must continue: speakers

Though democracy in Pakistan is tattered but future of the country lies in democratic process that must continue despite horrendous predicaments. The western definition of democracy needs to be changed as per the objective realities of Pakistan.
Speakers expressed these views addressing a seminar on ‘Contradictions of Democracy—Causes and Possibilities of Reformation” at Hameed Nizami Press Institute of Pakistan (HNPIP) Auditorium near China Chowk on Friday.
Former Speaker National Assembly Fakhar Imam presided over while Qayyum Nizami and Salman Abid were chief guests on occasion. Speakers included Prof MA Siddique and Ashraf Sharif. HNPIP speaker Absar Abdul Ali was the programme moderator.
Fakhar said democracy could not continue in countries that claimed to be its founders but it continued with passage of ample time. Talking about democratic dilemma in Pakistan, Imam said, no general elections could be conducted here that added to worries of those who had dreamt of democracy.–Staff Reporter
