The members of High Court Bar Association Multan (HCBAM) elected Muhammad Ali Gillani as their new president for the year 2015-16 duirng the annual elections held here on Saturday, disclosed initial unofficial results.
He got 1,820 votes while his opponent Sheikh Jamshed Hayat could get 1,502 votes.
The voting started at 8:00am and continued till 5pm in a peaceful atmosphere. As many as 3,336 out of 6,096 voters used their right of franchise to election their representatives.
The candidate for Library Secretary post Shahida Wazeer and seven members of Executive Committee namely Mian Mahmood Ansari, Sardar Irshad Dogar, Shamas ul Haq, Sajid Iqbal Chaudhry, Shahzad Maitla, Mureed Hussain and Shama Noreen have already been elected unopposed. The initial results further revealed that Malik Khan Langah defeated his three opponents namely Malik Sajjad Wains, Ashraf Sindhu and Abdul Rehman Tariq in run for General Secretary seat while Asghar Lodhi defeated Maqbool Hussain Bhatti, Rana Maqsood Afazal and Akram Rao and got elected Vice President. Four candidates Mahr Fakhar Raza Malana, Rubina Yaqoob, Imran Haider and Ramzan Bhatti are vying for Library Secretary post and the counting of votes was underway till filing of this report.
Police made strict security arrangements on this occasion as heavy contingents were deployed in and around high court bar building.
PC POLL TODAY: The elections to elect new office bearers of Multan Press Club for the term 2015-16 will take place today (Sunday), declared election committee. A total of two candidates are vying for president seat, eight vice president, two general secretary, four joint secretary, two finance secretary and 31 for 11 executive council seats. The polling will start at 8:30 am and continue till 5:00 pm without any interval. The elections are being held with a delay of one year as a stay order from the court suspended entire procedure on January 6, 2014 when all was set to hold the polls.
According to details, Shakil Anjum and Ashfaq Ahmad are face to face for the president office while Mirza Nadem Ahmad and Iftikhar ul Hassan for General Secretary. Similarly, Khalid Mahmood Sheikh, Shahid Sitthho, Shadab Anwar, Shahzad Anwar, Tariq Mahmood Qureshi, Asim Shirazi and Gohar Javed are in the run for two vice president seats, Agha Muhammad Ali, Amjad Bhatti, Sohail Chaudhry and Wasiq Rauf for joint secretary and Sajjad Khokhar and Mazhar Hanif for finance secretary. Meanwhile, the election committee convened here on Saturday with its Chairman Razi ud Deen Razi in the chair to finalize arrangements for the election. It was decided in the meeting that the election will be held on the same voter list which was used during submission of nomination papers.
