PM has to go to jail, if proven guilty: Imran Khan

Chairman of PakistanTehreek-i-Insaf Imran Khan addressed a rally at Chairing Cross on the Shahrah Rah e Quaid e Azam in Lahore as part of the PTI’s anti-corruption drive.

Imran Khan thanked the people who had come for the rally for showing up at the gathering on his call and standing up for a cause despite the heat.

Khan started his speech speaking for the rights of workers in relevance to May Day, and highlighted the need for provision of better living and health facilities for the working class.

He then spoke about the examples of self-accountability shown by leaders in the word when facing allegations of corruption.

The PTI Chief then named Prime Minister and said that Nawaz Sharif is stubbornly insisting that he has done nothing wrong despite of having being proven guilty of corruption by the Panama Leaks.

He alleged that the Sharif family had only one factory when they come into power, however after years of staying in power they owns dozens of factories.

He claimed that “Billions of taxpayers’ money was used on developing the Raiwind estate the residence of the Sharif family outside Lahore.”

Referring to the Premier's address to the nation last week, in which the PM had said he would resign and go home if proven guilty in the Panama Papers probe, the PTI chief said that if proven guilty the Prime Minister will have to go to jail, not just resign and go home.

“The daily corruption count in Pakistan is around Rs12 billion and it is done in the name of new development projects and receiving kick-backs on them,” said Imran, highlighting that the PTI's anti-corruption drive was geared towards getting public and political support against this menace.

The PTI is attempting to muster support from opposition parties for a plan to do a 'Raiwind March' to protest the Sharif family's ownership of offshore companies as shown by the Panama Papers.
