ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam on Tuesday discussed security-related issues with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Sources in Prime Minister’s House confirmed the meeting, quickly adding the formal meeting on the national security called by Premier Sharif was deferred as a meeting of the PML-N’s main leaders on the issue of removal of Gen (r) Musharraf's name from the Exit Control List (ECL) prolonged.
The sources further said that as soon as the PML-N meeting concluded, Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif and the ISI DG reached the PM House in a helicopter and held a brief meeting with him. They asserted the proposed meeting on the national security related to the ongoing peace negotiations with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the steps being taken by the government to contain the growing militancy in the settled areas, so the matters concerning these issues mainly figured at the meeting.
The sources further said a formal meeting in this connection would be called soon in which the proposed confidence-building measures and demands of Taliban Shura, including release of some non-combatant militants, would be discussed in detail.
