LAKKI MARWAT - A leader of former ruling Awami National Party (Wali) has demanded the government establish a university in the district.
Talking to journalists here on Tuesday, Ajmal Marwat, who is the district organiser of ANP (Wali), said that Lakki Marwat district was the most feasible for the establishment of university for bordering Punjab and tribal regions.
He said that the backward southern district was lagging behind in education while the youth lacked opportunities to get higher and research-oriented education at local level.
Marwat said that many poor students could not afford to get higher education in the universities of big cities. "The setting up of a university will help promote research work and higher education in the district," he maintained. He condemned the local politicians for not making sincere efforts for the establishment of a varsity in the area.
Out-of-school kids to be enrolled
The district elementary and secondary education department has formulated an action plan for the enrolment of out of school children in the current month.
The action plan for the enrolment drive was formulated at a meeting held here at the district education office on Tuesday. SDEO (Primary) Ikramullah Khan presided over the meeting while ADOs including Abdul Rehman Rasheed, Qadir Shah, Tahir Ahmad, Hamidullah Khan, Saleh Badshah and Aqal Wazir were also present on the occasion.
Ikramullah said that under the action plan different sorts of responsibilities had been assigned to the assistant district officers and heads and teachers of primary schools to make the enrolment drive a success. He told that all-out efforts would be made to ensure achieving the enrolment of targeted population of out of school children in schools.
