Curfew lifted in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN - Life returned to normalcy after the curfew imposed following Tuesday's attack on central prison, has been lifted in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank.
The curfew was lifted after 48 hours on early Thursday. The citizens were seen on the roads and buying daily use items from markets as soon as the shops and bazaars were opened. Hustle and bustle returned in the business centres and markets of the area for the upcoming Eid.
During the curfew, the police and security forces carried out search operations in several areas to arrest the escaped prisoners and militants. However, no arrest was reported. The imposition of curfew caused severe shortage of edible items in the area while the locals were forced to stay in homes.
Dozens of militants got freed nearly 175 inmates, including 35 'high-profile militants', during a brazen overnight attack on the central jail in Dera Ismail Khan, officials said. At least nine people, including four policemen and five militants, were killed in the attack and the following shootout.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwah government has commissioned an inquiry into the attack. The committee will comprise Khyber Pakhtunkhwah Senior Member Board of Revenue Waqar Ayub, KP Home and Tribal Affairs Department Special Secretary Syed Alamgir Shah, Additional Inspector General Police (Special Branch) Syed Akhtar Ali Shah and representative of Pakistan Army (Headquarters 11 Corps). The terms of reference of the committee are to unearth the facts leading to the incident and those responsible for it.
