RAHIM YAR KHAN - A man tried to auction off his daughter in Mohammad Pur Diwan village on Wednesday. Basheer Ahmed with the help of his three brothers tried to sale out his younger daughter Farzana. But as his spouse, Hanifa, put up resistance against this illegitimate practice, he fatally wounded her with repeated stabs of an axe. According to Hanifa’s father, Mithay Khan, Basheer has three daughters and two sons. He said his son-in-law attacked his wife with an axe when she stopped him from auctioning off Farzana. Mithay Khan, who lives near his daughter’s place, further said he rushed to Hanifa and Farzana’s help, when he came to know about the incident from his grandson, namely Iqbal.“When I reached there, I found Basheer and his brothers ruthlessly beating my daughter. As I tried to stop them, they all pounced upon me and injured me as well,” added the old man. Nevertheless, the four brothers fled the scene, when neighbours appeared on the scene. Akram, a neighbour of Basheer, said he saw Basheer and his brothers beating his wife and father-in-law. Saeeda, another neighbour, said blood was oozing from the wounds of injured Hanifa and her father. They were ferried to the Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital, where doctors said the woman received eight deep stabs and was in critical condition. A case has been registered against Basheer and his brothers, namely Munir, Rafiq and Latif. Basheer and Hanifa married 22 years ago.
