KARACHI (APP) Almost 60pc of the children brought with TB at National Institute of Child Health (NICH) have no history of relevant immunisation, called BCG. As per document recently prepared by Sada Welfare Foundation, an NGO supporting drug procurement and other needed assistance for TB patients at NICH, 40 to 45 child patients with TB are registered every month. Children aged between five years and 10 years constitute 40% of more than 5000 TB patients presently under treatment at NICH, they are followed by the above one year of age and below five years (35%). Kids above 10 years constitute 15% of these patients at NICH and 10% of the TB sufferers comprise those who are below one year of age. Pulmonary (Lungs) TB is the commonest type of TB identified among these kids followed by Cervical Lymphadenitis (Neck Nodes), Brain TB and Spinal TB. Commonest cause for the ailment among children was identified to be poor immunization, hereditary - transmitted to kids from mothers during pregnancy, inhalation and ingestion, unhygienic living condition and transmission from neighbours, schoolmates and so-forth.
